Protecting Public Safety Funding in SB 10

Public safety is the cornerstone of every strong community. That’s why it’s deeply concerning that the public safety exemption—which Representative Jared Patterson fought hard to include in SB 10, the property tax reform bill—is now at risk of being removed by the Senate-House conference committee.

If this exemption is eliminated, the ability of cities, counties, and Emergency Services Districts (ESDs) to fund essential public safety services could be severely impacted. Fire protection, EMS, and law enforcement all rely on stable funding to keep our communities safe.

We need your help. Please contact your state representatives and senators and urge them to protect public safety funding in SB 10. Just as importantly, reach out to your local cities and ESDs and encourage them to voice their support as well. Together, we can make sure our firefighters, EMS providers, and law enforcement officers have the resources they need.

For background, you can read our August 19 letter to Texas Rep. Morgan Meyer, Chair of the House Ways and Means Committee.
